My Perfect Day as a Location Independent Business Lady

This blog post is in response to Natalie’s 10 Day Freedom Plan Blog Challenge Day 3. Curious about this challenge? See what I wrote on Day 1 and Day 2!

For the past two years, I’ve been focused on the big stuff. I’ll be happy when I’m location independent. I just want to travel whenever I want. If I’m able to support myself and build my own business, that’s my ideal.

But when Natalie asked me to think of my perfect day… I drew a blank. There are SO MANY things I want to do and adventures I want to have. How can I cram that all into one day?

Today I’m going to give you a little glimpse into a perfect day three years from now. I expect you all to hold me accountable now that I’ve told you this.

8:30 AM- Good Morning!

I open my eyes to the sexy man beside me… Actually, who am I kidding? I’m probably by myself. But this is my dream day, and I can do whatever I want.

In my ideal world, I’m a morning person. Am I actually a morning person? Not really… but I feel like this is possibly attainable.

Sunlight streams through the window as I tuck in my clean white sheets. Because every dream has white sheets, right? I wander into the kitchen and make myself one of those healthy smoothies for breakfast. In this dream life, I actually have time for breakfast and don’t just scarf down some cereal before running out the door to work.

Afterward, I’ll do a little yoga and meditating because future me is healthy like that.

Vietnamese coffee

A cup of coffee a day in Vietnam is a must

9:30 AM- Coffee and Emails

Future me is productive. Future me powers through those emails and gets stuff done in the morning! Future me also has a really nice coffee machine and knows how to make lattes for me and my sexy man.

Three years from now I open up my organized email inbox to only the most important emails. I have a Virtual Assistant who helps me sort through the mess and sends me only the most pertinent things.

Today is a particularly special and exciting day in the world of emails. Not only do I have a contract negotiation from the editor of the hilarious book I’m writing about my life working in China’s “Factoryville”, I also have an invitation to speak at a conference and a brand ambassadorship deal with THINX period panties AND the Lifeproof iPhone case… because why not.

Future me is a boss.

12:30 PM- A Local Lunch

In this dream scenario, I’m living in the Philippines and the internet actually works. What?! I said it was a dream day!

The sexy man and I stroll through the town to our favorite lunch lady. We feast on her signature lemongrass chicken and iced tea, laughing at the kids running through the tables, playing with their pet dog.

Diving with sharks

Scuba diving!

2 PM- Scuba Diving!

Because why not? I throw on my sexy Swish wetsuit and grab my fins and goggles, heading to the local dive shop where I dive for free in exchange for promoting the company and managing their Instagram account. Today I’ll be taking some underwater photos for their website and Instagram with my new digital camera and waterproof housing.

The water is beautiful with crystal-clear visibility. I thought the day couldn’t get any better after spotting two leopard sharks, a giant sea turtle, and a few frog fish. But when I saw my first whale shark in the wild, I almost screamed through my respirator. Of course, I got perfect photos and video of all of it.

Hey, a girl can dream, right?

Strolling Siquijor’s deserted beaches. I love this island!

5 PM- Market Time

I grab a mango avocado smoothie from my favorite juice stand on the way to the local market. While sipping on my smoothie, I browse the stalls grabbing a giant fish, spicy peppers, onions and more. Of course, I pick up a few fresh mangoes for dessert. All of the vendors know me by name and laugh at my bedraggled appearance. No one’s hair looks good after diving.

As I take a quick shower in our beautiful, private, outdoor shower space, the sexy man preps our dinner ingredients. Yes, he can cook.

Koh Rong Long Beach sunset

The sunset will look something like this

7 PM- Dinner Party

A few blogger friends are in town, so the sexy man and I are hosting a dinner party. I break out the red wine and serve up a hearty portion of fish for everyone. We admire the incredible view of the stunning Filipino sunset and the sound of waves in the distance.

My friends have crazy stories about their latest adventure hiking in Indonesia, and I help them plan their next trip horseback riding in Mongolia. It’s only polite considering I went on a two-week horseback riding trek a year earlier.

As the evening winds down our neighbors stop by and invite us to a salsa party. Salsa on a Filipino island? Hey, don’t spoil my dream day.

The night ends with dancing, laughing and of course, karaoke with the old men down the street. What? They’re the best singers.

What I Learned From Writing This

When I first received this assignment, I thought it would be such a difficult task. I’ve really never even thought about my perfect day before! But honestly, I think this assignment was a great exercise for me. I now have a life I can strive towards!

If you can’t dream it, how can you achieve it? Now that I know what I want my life to look like in three years, I can take the right steps to bring myself there.

Thanks Natalie for this one. I’ll see you all tomorrow for day four!

What is your dream day? Have you ever thought about it? Give me some inspiration!

  1. This actually sounds like a really fun activity. Maybe I’ll give this a go in hopes it will shake me out of my writer’s block funk.

My dream home base is totally the Philippines too, although I don’t love their food nearly as much as I love Malaysian or Thai.

The sacrifices dream me has to make are monumental :P

  2. I love the perfect day exercise! I did this with my bff the other week and it was so hard to really dream big! Hahaha..but in mine I was on Broadway, soo…clearly not a problem for me :P Yours sounds amazing, and definitely do-able! And I’m curious as to why your dream day is in the Philippines! I am going for the first time in October, so this makes me excited that it’s the setting for a dream day! hahah

    • Broadway?! Wow that’s awesome. I was actually pretty into theater too growing up. I tried to come up with something that was slightly achievable so that I have a goal to work towards. Not all of this might happen in the next three years, and I could completely change my mind next week, but at least I have something more concrete now!
