Face Kinis and the Terror of Tanning

Here’s a really great article from NPR on a newly popular way for Chinese women to keep their skin white while enjoying the beach. I didn’t see any of these in Hainan when I went in April, but I’m assuming that if I went back now they’d be all the rage.

On Chinese Beaches, The Face-Kini Is In Fashion

I just arrived at my apartment-dorm in DC last night. I’m an orientation leader for all of the international students this week so I’ll be extremely busy- BUT apparently half of the one-thousand international students are Chinese so I’m hoping to make some friends to practice my Chinese with. I had lunch with the forty exchange students today (students studying abroad for a semester or year), most of which are from Australia and Europe. A few of them were very interested in coming to my sorority events as well as joining my ballroom team! Hopefully I’ll be able to get them very involved at GW and make sure they have American friends since all of the exchange students live together. Look out for my Xinjiang posts which will be (hopefully) arriving this week if I can work on them while unpacking and orientation-leading.
